Who?

Mark McDonald is an award winning Theatre Maker, Actor and Musician based in Melbourne/Naarm, Australia. Mark completed the Bachelor of Performance Making course at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, including a term at the Intercultural Theatre Institute (Singapore) and later participating in the Dead Puppet Society Academy Program (Brisbane).

Mark has followed his passion for creating original theatre work in many mediums, appearing in ‘3º’ (2020) The Naughty Corner’s ‘Maze’ at the Brisbane Powerhouse(2021) , ‘Maenad Fever’(Short Film, 2021) and Elysian Creative’s cult classic show ‘The Underground’ in multiple mountings at the Perth FringeWorld Festival.

Mark made his directorial debut at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia in 2024 with ‘FIFO’ which was awarded the ‘Blaz’ award for Best New Theatre Work. His ongoing collaboration with Linnea Tengroth on ‘Black Girl Rising’ has also recently been awarded ‘Best New Work by an Emerging Artist’ at the 2024 Melbourne Fringe Festival, the ‘Emerging Artist’ Award at 2025 Perth FringeWorld Festival, and the ‘Peace Award’ at the 2025 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Telling stories is human, I like to think that I’m committing radical and focused acts of humanity. With instinctive and deliberate attention to the way in which any given story demands to be told.
