Jan Craig, Community Champion at Asda Middleton Park, and Mark McDonald MSP hand-delivered the £848 cheque to the Granitehill House Tenant's Association at their coffee morning today.
With their grant, the Association will now be able to purchase new equipment to help support the social inclusion of residents through fun activities and events. The funding will go towards a new bingo machine, laptop and associated equipment.
"This is fantastic boost for Granitehill House because the money given today will have a big impact on people's lives very quickly. This funding is going straight to social activities that will engage residents and create fun interactions and that is something that important for all of us in our day to day lives. This is a great example of how businesses can work closely with communities to really give back something worthwhile and special to folk who live in them."
The application to the Asda Foundation by the Granitehill House Tenants’ Association was supported by dedicated Asda Community Champion, Jan Craig.
Jan has been working with the Association since 2014, when they received their first Asda donation through the ‘Chosen By You, Given By Us’ green token scheme, voted for by customers, and she has been a regular volunteer ever since. She said, “We’re so happy to be able to provide this much needed grant to the Association. The new funding will make a big difference to the Granitehill House residents.”
Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation is a registered charity that aims to have a positive impact on local communities, making independent grants to provide support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda’s community life colleagues throughout the UK.
It funds charitable projects and activities that have the ability and potential to achieve change for the better – with the aim of making a significant difference to local communities and the people who live there, both now and in the future.
Last year the Asda Foundation donated more than £300,000 to good causes in Scotland.
