A KPMG report in 2013 revealed that the Aberdeen & Aberdeenshire economy would see a £220m hit as a result of HS2, as compared against a £2.8bn boost to the Greater London economy.
Commenting Mr McDonald said:
“To date our local Tory MPs have been very adept at posting photos of themselves meeting government ministers, but have singularly failed to demonstrate that they are making any meaningful representations.
“The threat of HS2 to the North East economy is stark, and looming, the North East Tory MPs need to demonstrate that they genuinely have the interests of their constituents and the North East economy at heart by standing up for the region when the opportunity arises.
“These MPs cannot deny the impact of this decision, as the government itself was quick to laud the KPMG report when the headline figure suggested an economic benefit to the UK, while not releasing the details of the regions which were set to lose out.
“The North East has already been short changed by the UK Government in relation to the city region deal, it would be scandalous if the MPs elected to represent this region were willing to stand up and commit to an act of economic vandalism at such a critical time for our local economy.”
