Following a national outcry after it was revealed Greggs bakery will no longer stock the esteemed national delicacy; pie-loving MSP Mark McDonald took the streets of Aberdeen to hunt down our beloved macaroni pie.
While the rest of the country is fretting over where they will buy their pasta filled pastry, the Aberdeen Donside MSP has come to the rescue of North East residents by finding out exactly where they can have their fill of the savoury snack.
After sampling pies from J G Ross, Chalmers Bakery, Greenfern Bakery and Byron Bakery, Mr McDonald revealed that the macaroni pie is in fact live and kicking in his Aberdeen Donside constituency.
“Although Greggs has made the unpopular decision to axe the macaroni pie from its pastry offering, I decided to highlight some of the many bakeries in the City that still stock them. After visiting four pastry hotspots around the city to see if they stocked macaroni pies, it became evident to me that the popular Scottish delicacy is here to stay.
“I’d like to thank the fantastic staff of J G Ross, Chalmers Bakery, Greenfern Bakery and Byron bakery for their hospitality, and the delicious macaroni pie. Although it is facing the cull from the biggest high street bakery chain, I feel this is the perfect opportunity to showcase the local offering from smaller business such as these. Small businesses are a vital part of our economy, and it is important to support them in any way we can. I urge all macaroni pie fans or other to get behind their local bakery and support them.”
