North East politicians, Alex Salmond MSP MP and Mark McDonald MSP have expressed concerns after a recent announcement has indicated that airline BMI Regional is considering plans to relocate its engineering operations to Bristol following an £8 million merger with Loganair which took place last month.
Mr McDonald and Mr Salmond have both written to Aberdeen Airport and BMI Regional to seek a meeting to allow a constructive dialogue to take place in order to pursue alternative options.

Commenting Mr McDonald said:
“Whilst the relocation plans announced by BMI are concerning, I believe that there is still the opportunity to secure a future for Aberdeen Airport as a base for engineering operations.
“Given the cross-sector engineering skills that exist within Aberdeen, I remain hopeful that there can be a constructive dialogue with Aberdeen International Airport and BMI to explore alternative options which safeguard jobs and investment.”
Commenting Mr Salmond said:
“Mark and I will be working as hard as possible to protect jobs in the North East of Scotland and we have both been in touch with the company regarding this matter.
“We will be doing our best for the workforce and families involved.”
