The Aberdeen Donside MSP has highlighted concerns raised by local residents following reports of children playing in the Lang Stracht site, which has lain empty since the old school was demolished in 2012.
Commenting Mark said:
“Local residents have made me aware of children entering the old Summerhill school site, and I am concerned that they are putting themselves at risk.
"I am now hearing of particularly concerning reports where young children are using the site as a playground, even climbing on the large earth mound left after demolition - which is exceptionally risky and could result in a serious accident.
“I have written to the Chief Executive of Aberdeen City Council requesting that the security of the site is checked and improved. It is disappointing that this situation has arisen, particularly since there has been talk of works getting underway for over two years now.
“If works will not start on the site in the near future then, at the very least, the earth mound needs to be dealt with in order to ensure the safety of the site for the time being, and I hope the council will take whatever steps are necessary.”
