The Aberdeen Donside MSP has chosen Len Nicol from Dyce to attend the ceremony along with parliamentarians and other individuals representing constituencies across Scotland.
Since suffering a stroke, Mr Nicol raised around £8000 for ARI through a walking football tournament last year. The sport is close to the local hero, who was himself a founding member of the Dyce Boys Club in 1980.
Mark McDonald MSP said: “I have great admiration for Len’s strength and tenacity to take his passions for sport and his community, and use them to raise funds for a fantastic cause.
“It is remarkable that Len has recovered so well from his stroke, as is continuing to give so much back not only to young people in sport, but for the hospital which helped him through challenging times. I am proud to have Len represent Aberdeen Donside at the opening of the Scottish Parliament next week.”
