In a letter to Mr McDonald, the Chief Executive of the Post Office has expressed a desire to continue operating in the area, and added that once a “firm plan” is in place, local customers and community representatives will be told the details of specific branch proposals before plans are finalised.
The Aberdeen Donside MSP has received numerous letters from constituents in the area urging for the service to be reinstated after the shut-down of a SPAR store on Great Northern Road prompted a temporary closure.
Mark McDonald said: “I hope a businesses or convenience shop looking to set up a new premises will seize the opportunity to take on the former SPAR site and the Post Office that operated within it. The services provided by that local branch are greatly appreciated by the local community – especially elderly residents who are not able to walk long distances to alternate locations.
“There would of course be the alternative option in that an existing and suitable local business could take on the Post Office branch opportunity. Having this operation within a shop could bring more customers in and boost growth within a premises.”
