As part of the initiative Police Scotland will be working with First to bus CCTV footage in order to identify motorists who have been seen to overtaking in contravention of a keep left arrow and prosecute in incidences where there is suitable evidence.
Mr McDonald had previously written to Aberdeen City Council and Police Scotland on the issue after it was raised with him by residents of Charlie Devine Court on a visit last month.
Commenting, Mark said:
“I am delighted that after having raised my constituents concerns about pedestrian safety at bus stops with Police Scotland, action is now being taken in partnership with First Bus to discourage dangerous behaviour and catch those who endanger the lives of pedestrians.
“I hope that the campaign accompanying the initiative will discourage road users from flouting the rules at pedestrian crossings and ensure that the minority that continue to endanger lives will be held accountable for their actions.”
